Young Black Miao girls dancing. Zuo Qi village, Min Gu township, Zhenfeng county, Guizhou province 0010p22.jpg
Young Black Miao girls dancing.  The back of the costume shows the jacket which has an embroidered centre panel in the back which is surrounded by appliquéd silk layers with silk woven braid.  The braid shown tied around the back of the jacket is hand woven.  The back apron is a complex weave and has been dyed with a form of gentian violet which turns green.  This rubs off as a mauve colour on the hand very easily.  The pleated skirt swirls gracefully with movement.  The bottom is a separate woven braid.  The head dress has several triangular scarves, some with silver ornaments added which is topped by a turban which the fabric of which has also been treated with gentian violet.  The fringe is carefully combed out.  Zuo Qi village, Min Gu township, Zhenfeng county, Guizhou province
