Having just returned from a few days in Bangkok, I want to recommend a visit to Jim Thompson's former home, which now also includes a lovely exhibition gallery. The Thai Textile Society (Taitex) has used this venue for their shows, and currently showing is "Temporary Insanity"- the works of Pinaree Sanpitak, a Thai artist using textiles in contemporary ways. The site is a lush oasis in this dynamic city, and is only a short, block-long walk from the National Stadium stop of the Skytrain. There is an openair cafe, and upstairs bar on site, and an enclosed, air conditioned restaurant is under construction. The site is along a 'klong', or canal, and one can catch a water taxi nearby for further explorations. Located at 6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Road, it is open every day 9:00am-5:00pm. Admission is 100Baht.

See: http://www.tribaltextiles.info/communit ... .php?t=196 for information on TAITEX as referred to in Susan's post above.
