This post is really especially for MAC!

I was reading Laverne Waddington's latest Backstrap Weaving blog - just fascinating on her careful learning process on weaving on a very fine cotton thread warp. Part-way down the blog she discusses - with photos and a video - the fine ikat thread shawls of the Tacabamba, Peru that she met in Cusco. I thought of MAC and his passion for ikat as I saw the great images and video.

Seaons Greetings to you MAC!

(and many thanks to forum member Laverne)

Pamela, Thank you so much for posting this link to Laverne's wonderful blog. The video is simply amazing. Everyone should take a look at the Goddess of Weaving, Ixchel, incarnate!

Weaving on a backstrap loom, standing up, she wields a sword over a meter in length to match the width of her warp ikat dyed cloth. Such strength, skill and elegance!

I wonder if the weavers of Takabamba usually weave standing or if this was done for the demonstration. It must be very tiring and hard on the hips and legs, not to mention the shoulders at this extreme width.

Oh, Ixchel! Your distaff spins the thread of life and your sword weaves the fates of men.

Thanks to Laverne for this wonderful video. Keep up the great work!

Beautiful. Laverne's blog is the go-to resource for anyone interested in backstrap weaving.
