I thought this Hinggi Sumba was a fascinating piece. But i could be absolutely wrong, it is one of the few Sumbas i bought. Like to hear your opinions please.

Hi Effi

I must begin my comments by declaring that I have very little detailed expertise re Sumban textiles. Now that is out of the way my comments as a textile enthusiast....

I can appreciate why you could not pass this one by. It is quite a tour de force in terms of the complexity of its design and resulting ikat skills needed to produce the dyed threads. Clearly executed by someone who has a phobia about leaving any empty space on the face of a textile! The whole piece is alive with movement with all the 'cast' leaping out of the cloth. I am not sure if you hung it in front of your bed whether it would aid insomnia as you became lost in the action or whether it would keep you awake by all the jostling for position!

If this is a tourist piece then a lot of work went into it and it should have commanded a high price.

Definitely gloriously over the top!

Hi Pamela

I do have insomnia but i didn't hang this Sumban ikat in front of my bed I hung another Sumban piece that I will post here later.

I like this piece because even its very full in design as a whole it has a great harmony. As per photo # 2108 , Its remind me in a way the Millflour Tapestries of the 16 century.
