Greetings all.
Yesterday I was treated to a tour of the ethnic textile collection at the Fu Jen Catholic University in New Taipei City. They seem to have a fair amount of Taiwan aboriginal peoples, much Miao (?) and more I did not get a chance to see. They are not my area but I have been following what there is on the Forum.
All the textiles are in an environmentally controlled facility with drawers, little rooms, etc., that dwarfts several museums I have see. Also much fantastically elaborate silver work which I presume was Miao (?). I have no Chinese and their English was not so good for techical things in English. Also my hearing is shot and I now wear a hearing aid in each ear so I may have missed a fine shade of meaning.
The school has a very extensive textile/fashion arts/other textile concerns program.
I understood (I think) that they are working on a website for display of their textiles which would be a monumental job given the extent of their holdings.
Now off to critique some student design projects at the National Taiwan University of the Arts.
