I am trying to locate a copy of the "Legends in the Weaving" by Dara Kanlaya and members of the Group for Promotion of Art and Lao Textiles. I was told that book was published by the Group itself in 2001. This book also appears on this website. However I cannot seem to locate the book for purchase online.

Are there are any American booksellers specializing in Southeast Asian publications?

Thank you for any information.

Susie

Welcome to the forum!

I fear that we are going to let you down on this one. I have looked on 2 US based websites specialising in Asian titles - Paragon http://www.paragonbook.com/ and Abe http://www.abebooks.com. The latter keeps wanting me to include a link to them on my links page but so far they have not had any book I have looked for! I am afraid that the book does not come up on either site.

Last October I saw copies of the book in a couple of bookshops in Thailand. I have tried Asia Books (Bangkok) http://www.asiabook.com/ but nothing in the search. I found eventually something on Suriwong Book Centre in Chiang Mai where I know I saw the book but no search. I don't know if Susan Stem might be able to check out for you if they still have it.

The book was published by The Japan Foundation Asia Center - you might try contacting them to see if they can help you. I can't find any trace on their website but here is a link to contact addresses http://www.jpf.go.jp/e/about/othero.html#ny

I used the search function on Select Books in Singapore - who got it for me and certainly mail all over the world - nothing came up. You might try emailing them as they made a special effort to get it for me and someone hand carried a few books out of Laos to Singapore after my request. http://www.selectbooks.com.sg/

I tried the search function on Han Shang Tan's website (they would send to USA) but nothing.

You could try to get the book via Rusty's hints on direct contact - see thread http://www.tribaltextiles.info/communit ... c.php?t=15

I am afraid that I cannot think of any other ideas at present.

good luck!

I contacted Susan Stem in Chiang Mai and she said:

Re your question about the book Legends in Weaving- it is still available at around 1200B; Suriwong had several copies last week.

The contact details for Suriwong are below including their email. I suggest that you contact them and ask them if they will send to you. You will probably have to fax the back and front of your credit card but with luck will be able to use this to purchase since they will accept credit cards in the shop. This may well be your best bet of getting hold of the book.

Suriwong Book Centre,
54 Sridonchai Road, Chiang Mai 50100
Tel. 053-281-052 to 5 Fax. 053-271-902
E-mail: suriwong@loxinfo.co.th

good luck!
