Hello,

I am looking for a possible identification / information on a quilted jacket originating I believe from one of the numerous Yunnan-based minorities.
It is made of layers of indigo cotton textile padding an inner layer of unwoven cotton (?), and uses old embroideries. please see the attached pictures.

Thank you

Hi Jivaro, welcome to the forum!

I contacted Martin Conlan 'Slow Lorris' (a many time visitor to Yunnan and Guizhou who collects and deals in textiles from the region) and asked for his opinion. He has kindly responded:
Quote:
"Hi Pamela,

The piece is Raojia from Guizhou, the winter version of the multi layered jackets.

Martin"

I hope that Andrew Dudley will see the post as he has some lovely Rao Jia pieces several of which he has shared with us on the forum. The majority of these has been wax resist, I think. If you use the Search button (top right of screen, second button along) and search for Rao Jia you should turn up the posts.

Thank you Pamela.
Your reply is most useful and previous posts from Andrew and Chris among others opened a box of marvels ! :-)
I understand adult jackets had no batiks.
I should have mentioned the size of this jacket. It is about 90 cm across and 70 cm in total height.
