In mid October I was fortunate enough to be able to squeeze in a short visit to Chiang Mai over a long weekend on a business trip to Tokyo and Bangkok. Thanks to forum member Susan Stem (and her husband Robert) I had a fantastic three days crammed full of textiles, good Thai food amd excellent company.

During 2003 there have been posts to our forum about textile collections in Thailand which it is possible to view. I was amazed during my October trip to find that so many fine textiles were accessible. A couple of collections were particularly fine and well displayed with good information. (I have already added comments to some of the aforementioned threads.)

I have put together a new page giving information on these excellent collections: http://www.tribaltextiles.info/Countrie ... ctions.htm I have also updated the page on shops and galleries in Thailand: http://www.tribaltextiles.info/Countrie ... _shops.htm

I hope that some of you will get the opportunity to visit these collections - which all intend to rotate their exhibits every 6 months. Please share your comments and also let us know of other accessible collections in Thailand or elsewhere.

I am very sorry, I have only just realised that the link to the Thailand textile collections in the post above did not work. I have just amended it there - and here it is again! http://www.tribaltextiles.info/Countrie ... ctions.htm

Pamela, I just read your trip report on Chiang Mai and Bangkok and loved it. I first went to Bangkok in 1969. I fell in love with the architecture and culture. I had always wanted to go back so finally in 1999 I organized a tour for a friend and myself. I loved it so much that I took eight women back in 2000 and another six in 2003. I am going myself next month and have planned to do a bit of exploring in Laos with the thought of leading another Women's tour in 2005, this time focusing on textiles. What you have written is so exciting that I just had to tell you how many new ideas it has given me. The only problem with finding new things to show my friends is that I also want to show them the things I have discovered on past trip. My ideal tour of Thailand would now probably last a month at least. With side trips to Seam Reap and Laos at the end, of course. It has been such a treat to find your web site. Thanks, Marilee

Marilee-
When you visit Thailand next, do let me know; we're in Chiang Mai and would love to meet a 'fellow' textile enthusiast and fan of Thailand. You can email me via susan@tribaltrappings.com.
