One of our forum members, Andrew Dudley, has a wonderful collection of wax resist (batik) from southwest China and has shared some beautiful pieces with us. Some of this has been from the Bailing (White Collar) Miao in Guizhou province. Andrew's own collection focuses on old pieces. However, he has shared with us on the forum photos of some current pieces still being made particularly by the sister-in-law of a friend of his. She is interested in setting up a small workshop in her village to produce “traditional” batik pieces and allow the women to earn a little cash from maintaining their cultural identity. See the following link. With luck it will take you direct to the relevant post on what is a long thread. If not, go to page 4 part-way down the thread to Andrew's post which starts 'Another Bailing Miao quilt cover' ... =2778#2778

It is wonderful to see that such good quality pieces are still being produced and it would be good to be able to support the continuation of this skill.

See a couple of images from Andrew's post:
