Michael Howard's two-volume update on the textiles of Burma is now available. The first volume covers the Naga, Chin, Jingpho, and other Baric-speaking groups; the second volume includes the northern Mon-Khmer, Rawang, Upland Burmish, Lolo, Karen, Tai, and Hmong-Mien-speaking groups. Each volume is thicker than his earlier single volume on the same subject, and includes many new photos in color from his research in the field and from various museum collections around the world. It's a most welcome addition to the literature on these textiles and tribal groups, and along with the Frasers' Mantles of Merit, helps give more insight into this difficult-to-study region.
