While I am posting this in the "books" section, this is not a book, but a DVD. I have had cause to look at it again in conjunction with the film I am producing on Batak weaving techniques in North Sumatra, and I am glad. It really is a marvellous overview of natural dyes around the world, their history and how they are made. It is one of the MAIWA Productions produced by Charllotte Kwon and Tim McLaughlin. Charllotte Kwon, a Vancouverite, is one of Canada's best treasures. She has vision, energy and a superb team that are doing all they can to promote and stimulate the indigenous weaving arts.
This film is 90 minutes long and can be purchased at or by emailing Charllotte and Tim have also produced Eye of a Needle: Stories from an Indian Desert, Indigo: A World of Blue, and Tana Bana: Wisdom of the Loom.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas (if you celebrate it) and a textile-filled 2011 -- because all of you are in love with textiles!
