Seminar and special viewing on Saturday 21st May 2 - 5pm
Charllotte Kwon and Tim McLaughlin, founders of Maiwa Handprints and authors of the the book Textiles of the Banjara, will give a presentation of their work of over twelve years researching and reviving the traditional embroidery of the Banjara in India. Discussion, handling session, gallery tour and book signing.

Private View and book signing on Tuesday 24th May 6 - 9pm
Charllotte and Tim will be present to sign copies of their book. Join us for opening of the exhibition.

If you are in London do try and get to the "Stitching the Square: an exhibition of Banjara Embroidery from India" exhibition referred to above at . Yesterday I went to the excellent symposium Joss had organised. Tim McLaughlin and Charllotte Kwon shared their knowledge based on their research over the last 12 years and we saw slides of various photos in their new book on the Banjara. We also had a preview of the exhibition at Joss Graham's gallery as well as seeing (and handling) many lovely, richly coloured and finely workd Banjara pieces from three collectors, some of whose pieces are photographed in the book. Altogether a lovely time appreciating the wonderful Banjara embroidery, appliqué and quilting.

Some of the new Banjara textiles which are sourcing from 'Surya's Garden' with whom they have been working for several years were available to buy and will, I think, also be accompanying the exhibition. I was very impressed by their quality which was a joy to see. I could not resist a lovely, small - 10cm when closed, contemporary version of the traditional kalchi (envelope bag).
