Forum member Louis Dubreuil has been in touch with me giving information on what sounds like a fascinating exhibition running through until 31 March 2013 in his home town of Clermont Ferrand, in the Auvergne, France at the MUSEE BARGOIN.

Louis has explained that this exhibition, named "METAMORPHOSES", follows on from the festival of extraordinary textiles (FITE) that took place in September 2012. The theme of the exhibition "metamorphosis" is illustrated by textiles and clothes of different times and countries: ethnological textiles and costumes, contemporary creations (metalic textiles, felts, embroideries...). He says that some textiles are really astonishing: for example a shawl made of spider silk from Madagascar; a textile woven with fibres of a giant Mediterranean mussel; an armour from PNG made of orchid fibres. Some pieces are very curious like a piece of embroidery made in "Le Puy en Velay", a town well known for its embroidery tradition, that displays several tiny flies made of black embroidery on a white field! There is also a very rare porcupine tunic from Cameroon.

Louis is very kindly offering to accompany some visitors around the exhibition if they meet up with him in advance. You should be able to contact him via the forum.

He has given a link to the press-release (in French) about the exhibition http://www.clermont-ferrand.fr/IMG/pdf/dossier_de_presse_fite-2.pdf (I noticed that there is a good map of Clermont Ferrand right at the end of the press-release).

If you are able to get to the Auvergne before the end of March this sounds like a fascinating exhibition - especially if you get to see it in the company of Louis!
