I hope that Forum member Alejandro de Avila won't mind, but I wanted everyone to know of the opening of this new museum, which has been a labor of his love for some time now. He and two other collectors (Francisco Toledo and Maria Isabel Granen Porrua) pooled their collections, totaling 4,000 pieces to provide the foundation for the museum. Appropriately, it is housed in a newly restored, former 18thc. home of Angel Antelo, a wealthy Spanish merchant who made his fortune exporting 'grana cochinilla', the insect used to make dyes for textiles.

The location is in downtown Oaxaca at Av. Miguel Hidalgo 917, on the grounds of an old convent, and it is open every day except Tuesday.

Congratulations Alejandro!
