I was very pleased today to hear from forum member Adline. You may remember that she joined the forum in July 2006 and to share information about an exhibit of Ikats at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur where she works as Assistant Curator of Textiles.

Adline is very busy on various writing projects. As well as some more major writing in the pipeline Adline is now a regular contributor to 'Essenze' magazine. She has started a blogspot where she is posting her articles as published although, regrettably, without any images for copyright reasons. One of these is on songket and I thought that forum members might be interested in it. See http://lucidfrog.blogspot.com/2007/03/s ... senze.html

Difficult to decide where the best place is for this post so I am starting it on 'General' but may move it to 'Museums, Exhibitions, Events, Galleries and Websites' and leave a copy here.

I am sure that we all wish Adline well with all her writing projects and hope that she will keep us up to speed with them.

Hi Pamela! After receiving your e-mail I couldn't resist dropping by! And to my surprise... you're already promoting my blog :)

Yes, I was initially concerned about using museum images because they are tightly regulated & we have had instances of plagiarism .. with dire consequences for all those involved.. :P

But, I simply cannot blog without pictures .. so I started looking for images from other websites, all credited of course :) They may not be the same images that appeared in the publications, but at least it will make my blog articles more interesting.

Hope you all like it! Comments are welcome :)

Hi Adline, and welcome back- we missed you!
I'm glad to see your blog with your article on songket- thank you for making this available.

Unfortunately, I could not find a way to purchase the book featured on your blog- The Message & The Monsoon. It sounds fascinating, but the link to the bookshop did not feature it specifically and I could not find it via search. If you could provide some other way of procuring it, I would be most grateful.

Adline

Is it possible to purchase books from the IAMM shop? There does not seem to be a way to purchase on-line and not sure if they will send overseas. The IAMM shop is super, especially the books section and the holdings which I saw last August were very wide indeed. I even got a book on English tiles which featured tiles made in the middle ages in the little hamlet that I live in, Tyler Hill, on the edge of Canterbury (I have terribly heavy clay soil in the garden!)

I too could not find the book on the other linked bookshop either by search or going through all the culture books.

I am very pleased to see some images in your blog articles now - makes all the difference. We do like the visual on this forum!

all the best,

Dear Susan & Pamela,

Thank you, it's good to be back. Like the title of my favourite Norah Jones' album, it ... "Feels like home". I managed to get internet hooked up at home, so I do spend a lot more time online now... which accounts for my more regular postings.

I'm so glad you're both interested in the book, but so sad to hear that you're encountering problems to acquire it. I spoke to the IAMM's Museum Shop Assistant Manager before I made those posts & he assured me that people overseas could get it online through MPH. They may be out of stock. I will check again & get back to you ;) I think he did mention to me that people could get it straight through the IAMM Museum Shop.

Glad you like the pictures!

Dear Pamela,

I've changed my blog URL, so here's the current link to that same article on songket:
