Meticulously researched by Sue and David Richardson, this is an important contribution to the documentation, of which there is little in English, on the Karakalpaks. They say
Quote:
"This site is an independent and authoritative souce of information about all things Karakalpak, from the origins and history of the Karakalpak people to their present day lifestyle. It contains important sections on the traditional material culture of the Karakalpaks, such as costume and yurts."
As a Turkic-speaking people, our members will no doubt see some similarities to the Turkmen tribal groups, however, as David and Sue point out they are a distinctive ethnic group in Uzbekistan. Read more at http://www.karakalpak.com/index.html, but be prepared to become absorbed and lose a few very enjoyable hours perusing their site.
