Holland is getting in a Chinese atmosphere! Because of the Olympic games in China there are several exhibitions on Chinese embroidery. recently I have heard about two more:

“China in Town.”
the traditional and modern language of costume
20. March – 18. May 2008 in the Juliana Paviljoen in Keukenhof ( in Lisse). In spring the Keukenhof is well know all over the world for his beautiful flowers.
Beside a part of the collection from Ien Rappoldt which shows costumes from different minority groups as Dong and Miao, also contemporary designs inspired by China can be seen. Ien Rappoldt is known from her book: Woven stories (The culture of the Miao in China)ISBN 9068252674 both in Dutch and English

From Eastern there is also an exhibition on Chinese minority embroidery from Ien Rappoldt in the small village Vledder in Drenthe in the north of Holland. One can easyly combine a visit to the University museum in Groningen where there is the exhibition "The colours of China."
That is the advantage of living in a small country!

On several Saturdays there are given workshops by Ien Rapporldt on Chinese folded silk appliqué and how to make a folded yarn booklet.

[see thread http://www.tribaltextiles.info/communit ... php?t=1153 for Monique's reports after visiting these two exhibitions]
