Hello Pamela,

My name is Claire Putney and I recently had the privelage of meeting your good friend Alyn in Colorado over the holidays. She lives down the hall from my grandmother. We have a love for textiles in common and were able to share the projects we are both working on. She mentioned an international student program that you are coordinating and gave me a copy of your last update. I am currently a graduate student in the Fibers program at the University of Washington and am extremely interested in your research and travels abroad. Is there a way in which I can find out more about possilbe opportunities to become a part of this program?

Thank you and take care!

Dear Claire

I am afraid that there are a few crossed wires here.

I have a private obsession for textiles. Currently I have a 'day job' which is working for the University of Kent as Director of their International Office. This includes recruitment of students from outside the European Union to study at Kent and links between universities including exchange programmes.

Unfortunately the University of Kent does not have any textile programmes and nothing that I do at the University reflects my textile interests.

The www.tribaltextiles.info website and this forum contain considerable information on tribal textiles and textile travel. We try to help people with queries and share information which we have gleaned. Other than by this informal sharing of information I am afraid that I am unable to help you.

I was pleased to hear from Alyne at Christmas and that she seemed to be settled in her new apartment. I have happy memories of many years ago when she (and her late husband) were living in an apartment in St John's Wood in London and we were both members of the London Quilters.

Very best wishes,

Pamela,
Thank you for responding...yes, I misunderstood. I will continue to enjoy visiting the site and reading your updates.
Alyn is wonderful...she gave me a quilting demo while I was there!
My best wishes for you....
-Claire

Yes, Alyne is an excellent teacher. Many years ago I went to a workshop she gave for the London Quilters on Applique. It was so very clear. I still use my workshop project cushion everyday! Her technique for applique is effective and I have used it in many different projects. I also did her workshop on Hawaian applique. Also a good one although I find the technique harder but it has its uses at certain times.

I hardly lift a needle these days except to sew on buttons or shorten trouser hems or jacket sleeves!

best wishes,
