I am putting a link here to a thoughtful post by Chris Buckley on a Lao-Tai cotton and silk woven textile, heavily decorated by supplementary weft, which he decided to wash:
Quote:
"...I bought it (the textile) relatively cheaply in a rather dirty and stained condition, with some damage that you will see in the photos, so because of this I figured I had not much to lose by attempting to wash it (a procedure that often ends in tears with this kind of textile)."
To see the textile and Chris' detailed comments on washing it follow this link: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2423&p=7247#p7247
