Many thanks, Wu-zhh for your baby carrier identifications and photos.

As further information on the Zhouxi baby carrier I am adding a couple of photos.

One is was taken in May 2005 and shows Gina Corrigan assisting a Miao lady to show us how the the baby carrier is worn (unfortunately minus a baby). These baby carriers have a lot of cloth and it is not immediately obvious how they should be worn. The photo was taken in the Miao village of Shi Qing, Ya Fang township of Kaili city, Guizou province (as indicated by our guide).

The other photo from November 2001 and was taken in the same village although then we were told by our guide that it was Shi Qing village, Zhou Xi township, Guizhou province (21km to the west of Kaili). It shows one of the beautiful woven silk supplementary weft strips on the loom with a Miao lady from this village carefully picking out the pattern. I think that these woven strips are some of the most beautiful fine weaving carried out by the Miao. I was fortunate later in the day to be offered one of these baby carriers in the street in Kaili which was in good condition. The baby carrier has so much indigo cloth in it that it is easy to miss the lovely weaving in the bundle of cloth! In 2001 I had no idea how the baby carrier would be worn - 4 years of suspence!

Many, many thanks Wu-zhh and Pamela! It is very helpful to see these carriers 'in action', tho I would love to see a baby tucked into the one from Zhouxi- it seems to have a unique form and the support system is not quite apparent, tho it no doubt utilizes the length of the assymetrical ties.

Thank you also for the attribution on the carrier with flowers and multiple borders as from Yunnan- my original source thought it was from next door in Guizhou. As nothing like this was included in Bonding Via Baby Carriers, which covers Guizhou only, I should have wondered. It would be great if anybody has some photos of these being used...
