dear Pamela,
You are right. In fact if you add the lenght of the jacket and the skirt (which is supposed to be fixed on the hips)it is about 1 meter, so it can't be worn by a baby. This jacket has been sold to me as a XIX century jacket but...... I suppose it from end of XIX)/begining of the XX century but as you know it is very difficult to say.

Pamela & Olivier-
The Miao village photos are really great, Pamela! You are to be commended for such a good eye for detail and nuance. I really love the miniature adults in their festival finery and can see why Olivier's jacket and skirt could be for a young child- now we just need a hat!

And we need some more information about 'reed' clothing and 'screen' skirts. Could any of our Chinese contributors help with this... after Chinese New Year's of course.

Gōng hè xīn xe!

About Dong costume, I bought the following textile in a Dong Village in Guizhou as a head-cap (I am not sure if it is the good word in english, I mean a head ornament). Could you confirm it?

Olivier

Look at this thread - and keep going through our discussion of the 'mystery' until it comes to the Dong conclusion! http://www.tribaltextiles.info/communit ... .php?t=141

What I really want is to see one of these small weavings actually worn on the head!

(I cannot believe how we are both attracted to such similar textiles!)

best wishes

Pamela,
thank you for the answer. Yes it is exactly the same kind of textiles than yours (and yes it is incredible we have the same questions on the same textiles!)
