Bonsoir à tous

Back from a weekend in Paris. Little visit to the Quai Branly Museum. In the America department three wonderful ponchos without labels (???). Finely found in the museum on line site. Those ponchos are from Argentina, Gaykuru people, and are named "somaraiki".
black/red and white. Stripped design with irregular black motifs. Very nice and attractive.
I am looking for the brothers of this one (see picture) and for infos about the Gaykuru and their products.

What a stunning textile! I can well understand why you were taken with it. I don't really have much in my library on South American textiles and certainly not Argentina (more Bolivia, Mexico and Guatemala with the latter being really more Central America). I will keep my eyes open.

Don't suppose there is anything at the Textile Museum in Washington or perhaps one of their publications? If you go to their shop, books and publications section, Journals you can click on each journal cover and see the articles inside. I suggest the TM as I have noticed that they have quite a bit on Latin America in the Journals and also in their collection. ... &Itemid=28 Just a thought.....

Good hunting!
