The US government has relented and will allow the remaining 15,000 Hmong in Thailand to migrate here. They have been under the aegis of Wat Tham Grabawk (the Temple Cave) in Central Thailand since the camps on the Lao border were closed more than a decade ago.

The largest settlement of Hmong in the US is in California's Central Valley, some 50,000. The Hmong organizations there have already begun planning for the influx; a delegation from Minneapolis, another center of Hmong resettlement, has already arrived in Thailand.

This migration provides a new opportunity to assist these refugees, and learn from them about their traditional textiles and the textiles woven in Thailand.

I expect to be making a trip to the area around Modesto in the near future, and invite all "forumables" who live in California or who are especially interested in the Hmong, to contact me.
